Twitch Irenes Garden

Biography: band

For years, Irene's Garden has been making their own original music in the Central Wisconsin area. The vocal harmonies, mixed with keys, bass, guitar, percussion, and violin create what's been dubbed "organic rock and roll," and "hippie disco." Though their music tends to defy genre, influences from jazz, country, rock and roll and club music are apparent in their songs. And whatever you may call the music that comes from the seven member ensemble gets people out of their seats and onto the dance floor. When you go to an Irene's Garden show, expect to hear songs about love, life, and outer space. The band plays venues ranging from clubs to music festivals. To go along with several recording projects under their belts, Irene's Garden is currently working their newest project, Big Rock Theory, due this summer.

03/18/2017: Played at Cold Shot in Appleton, WI. This was our first time there. This is a great little venue. The owner, Dave, ran sound and achieved an awesome instrumental and vocal balance both out front and on stage. Our drummer, Rick, had injured his shoulder so Sarah played cahon and was amazing. After the gig, Dave cooked up some pizzas and passed out beef jerky of various flavors and heat indices.

6/26/2016: Great day recording at Big Rock Studios. Rhythm tracks for 4 more tunes completed: Ballad of Lucky Jack, Incense, Twilight and Flight of Mystery. Mercury Dave treated us to Rubarb Martini's.

6/24/2016: Band playing in Vesper, WI. at event protesting the Enbridge tar sands pipeline.

6/4/2016: Band played at Twister Jam in Mountain, WI.

5/29/2016: Band played at Mellen Jam, Mellen, WI. We had a great time. The people who attend this unique festival are music lovers of the highest caliber.

5/9/2016: Mailed contract in for 2016 Art on the Square in Waupaca. Show is scheduled for August 20th from 3:00pm to 4:30pm on the main stage.

5/8/2016: Yesterday's recording went well. We did another take of On and On / Resistance and laid down rhythm tracks for Fun to be a Loser, Stardream, You and Me and Twilight.

5/7/2016: We are Recording at Mercury Dave's Studio. Gig coming up on May 14th at Rookies in Stevens Point

4/29/2016: Played at Goodfellas in Marshfield; Bubba bought us congratulatory shots after the show; Stage sound was kind of loud, but I think we sounded OK out front. It was great to have Rick drumming.

4/25/2016: Recording session with full band at Big Rock Studios. Rhythm tracks completed for Transition, Temporary Thing, Ballad of Lucky Jack, O World and Gem Tree. Gig this Friday at Goodfellas Pub in Marshfield, WI.

4/17/2016: Vocal overdubs at mercury Dave's

4/5/2016: Just heard from Mercury Dave of Big Rock Studios that vocals were successfully added to How Many Tears, Vanished and Waiting for You during recording session on 4/3/2016. Hopefully, we'll be practicing this Sunday to prepare for more rhythm track recordings

4/3/2016: We are recording another album at Big Rock Studios, David "Mercury Dave" Kruger, engineer. We've recorded bed tracks for about 9 of 21 tunes. Today Sarah and Jenny are working on vocal overdubs.

We have a gig coming up at "Goodfellas" in Marshfield, WI on April 29th.

Jeff Lamarche

Jeff LaMarche is a phenomenal lead guitar player who is able to create seemingly infinite melodic variations over complex chord changes. He also writes the coolest, refreshingly original songs and is an awesome father, husband, teacher and friend.

I don't question the rumors that Jeff's ancestry can be traced back to time of Eleanor of Aquitaine in the courts of which his troubadourian progenitors entertained the royalty

Jenilee Klish

Jenilee Klish is a classically trained bassist with formidable skills. Equally at home on stand-up or electric bass, wearing tennies or stilettos, Jennilee lays down the bottom with precision and holds this whole thing together.

Jenny Ludeman

Blessed with a knockout voice and an acute sense of pitch rhythm and harmony, Jenny Ludeman is an essential part of the intricate fabric that gives Irene's Garden Its magic.

She also plays a mean mandolin and carries a silver hip flask.

Rick Martin

The band feels very fortunate to have had Rick Martin on the trap kit for so many years. He played with both the Stellectrics and Irene's Garden keeping some of us more temporally challenged members afloat with his precise and rock-steady time keeping skills. Not only that - he's also a kind, generous and patient human being (and he had to be to put up with us for so many years). We thank you.

Sarah Ludeman

Sarah Ludeman: Mother, musician, creator, healer, Sarah is a Wisconsin Legend. With trans-warp drive energy focused into vocals, guitar, drums and percussion, she continues to generate creative waves of positive musical energy whenever and wherever she plays.

Sheilagh Lyon

Sheilagh Lyon: The most recent addition to the band, Sheilagh seems to have been drawn into our circle by some kind of psychic magnetism. Her cherubic presence perfectly compliments her skillful and celestial violin technique.

Walter Wright

David 'Mercury Dave' Kruger Is a recording engineer who has been with the band from the beginning. His skill level, his encouragement, his friendship and generosity have contributed greatly to the band's spirit and longevity. I don't know what we would have done without him.

David runs the best and mellowest studio in Wisconsin: Big Rock Studios in Iola, WI.

Elizabeth Malia Wadden

Elizabeth Malia Wadden is a great fan and has become Irene's Garden principle archivist. If were not for her, many recordings and lyrics would have become irretrievably lost. Thank you, Betsy!!

Bob Ramleau

Bob Ramleau (Bob 'o). Played Djembe and other percussion with the band from 2001 until the band took a hiatus in 2006.He appears on the album "At Our Witz End". During that period we moved our practice out to Bob's farm where he had constructed a studio. Bob'o provided a dynamic and driving rhythm to the overall texture of the band.

Brett Stephenson

Brett Stephenson played with the Stellectrics as a bassist and with Irene's Garden as lead guitar player. His improvisational technique was sublime. Check out his lead on Anxiety.

Ed Crowley

Ed Crowley Ed played with Irene's Garden in the late 1990's. Ed rocks and he rocked Irene's Garden adding a solid and impressive bass style to the mix.

Jeremy Michor was instrumental in kick starting the first Irene's Garden incarnation. He was involved in the first IG mini-tour, contributing his vocal, guitar and trombone talents. He also figured strongly on the first CD (Shattered Blossom).

Josh Kepler bio Josh Kepler is the son of Tom Kepler, who played drums during the Stellectrics period.

Kel Kelly

Kel Kelly: is a university trained drummer/percussionist whose trans-cultural experiences have given him a flair for the exotic. Always exploring, always pushing the edge, always open, he holds the centrifugal energies together wih remarkable aplomb.

Ken Stevenson

Ken Stevenson was a founding member of the Stellectrics and is a fantastic bassist. He went on to play with Irene's Garden, Otis and the Alligators, Marques Bovre and other great bands in and around Madison, WI.

Lisa Marchel

Lisa Marchel played electric violin with the Stellectrics and appeared on the first Irene's Garden CD, Shattered Blossom, playing violin and contributing her original composition, Kaleidoscopes.
